Crater Lake Downhill Bike ride

7th Annual Crater Lake Downhill Saturday July 16th
15 cyclists Ron Hilbert, Carol Jean Maynord, Larry Filosi, Bill Howett, Shelby Filley, Mark Rodchester, Jesse Goodman, Dick Dolgonas, Troy Mullins, Dave MacFarlane, Bernie Peyralans, Jessica Kovarik, John Standley, Geirgie Olzaski, and Barry Withworth gathered at 5:00AM to be shuttled to Crater Lake National Park 95 miles up the mountain. Upon arriving we encountered road construction and a gravel road for a couple of miles so we turned around and went back to another spot for staging our ride. We prepared our bikes, pumped up the tires, filled up water bottles and put on warm clothing. At 8:30AM we started down the mountain with our SAG vehicle following with Joan Hilbert and Kenney Fouchek and we soon began shedding clothes as we got into lower elevations. The first 50 miles is a HOOT gliding along this beautiful highway with little effort. We had lunch at Boulder Flat Campground along the North Umpqua River. Our next rest stop was Susan Creek Day Use Area, then on to Glide. We turned right onto North Bank Road for the last 10 miles of the ride. The riders finished around 3:00PM. After the ride we went to Si Casa Flores Mexican Restaurant in Sutherlin for a celebration of the ride and Ron Hilbert's and Shelby Filley's Birthday. Please join us next year for this beautiful ride.
